Building friendship, sharing cultures, and growing together as people for others

“Rooted in faith, formed as global citizens, we live as people for others.”

From 27 September to 2 October, Colégio de Santo Inácio de Loiola (CSIL) had the privilege of welcoming nine (9) students and three (3) teacher/staff from Saint Ignatius’ College Adelaide, Australia, for a meaningful educational and cultural exchange program.

The visit provided an opportunity for both Jesuit school communities to strengthen friendship, share cultures, and learn from one another. On 28 September, the CSIL community warmly welcomed our visitors through a gathering involving students, teachers, and staff. Throughout the programme, students shared aspects of their respective cultures, traditions, experiences, and realities, discovering the common values that connect us as members of a global community.

A special highlight was the collaboration with Lenuk Tasi, which introduc ed students to the importance of marine conservation and caring for our common home. Students learned about threatened marine species, particularly sea turtles, and explored ways of becoming more responsible stewards of the environment. This experience reflected the Jesuit commitment to forming young people who are people for and with others, attentive not only to human communities but also to creation.

The exchange also created meaningful opportunities for students to share their experiences of leadership, the challenges they encounter, and their hopes for the future. Through dialogue, friendship, reflection, and collaboration, they experienced how Ignatian spirituality can be lived across different cultures and contexts, encouraging us to Find God in All Things.

The programme concluded with Dahur Hamutuk, a traditional Timorese dance that brought students and staff together in a joyful celebration of friendship, culture, and community.

CSIL is deeply grateful to Saint Ignatius’ College Adelaide for sharing this journey with us. May the friendships and experiences continue to grow and inspire both communities to live our shared mission.
